译文
不象银不似水月华把窗户映得寒凉，抬头远望这晴朗的夜空护托着一轮玉盘。月光中疏淡的梅花散发出浓郁的芳香，银色里丝丝的柳枝又似带露初干。自以为淡淡的白粉涂上那金色的阶砌，仿佛如薄薄的轻霜飞洒在玉栏。一梦醒来西楼里已是一片静寂，只有中天里的残月还可隔帘遥观。

非银非水：不像银不似水。

香菱咏月·其二鉴赏
这是香菱写的第二首咏月诗。
在这首诗的创作中，香菱菱牢牢记住黛玉的话：“只管放开胆子去作”。结果，“放开”倒是做到了，却又偏偏走向另一个极端——“过于穿凿”。诚如宝钗所评论的。“不像吟月诗了，月字底下添一‘色’字倒还使得，你看句句倒是月色。”
诗的首联首句：“非银非水映窗寒”，写的便是月色，并未真正切题。只有到了次句：“试看晴空护玉盘”才正式进入咏月本意。这一句的“护玉盘”之喻，是较为形象生动的。然而这种比况并非始于香菱，在李白《古朗月行》一诗中，就已有“小时不识月，呼作白玉盘”之句，只不过香菱在这里把它借用过来罢了。较之前诗“玉镜”、“冰盘”等词，这一借用显然要高明一些，表达的意思也就雅致一些。
诗的颌联以烘染的手法，用“淡淡花香欲染，丝丝柳带露初干”这一清新素雅的语言，来状写柔和而湿润的月色，的确是颇具情韵的。但是由于写的是月色而非月轮，故仍不免又离开本题。诗的颈联同样有这种毛病，特别是这两句本应在意思上作一转折，才算符合律诗章法上的特点，但这一问题并未很好解决。“只疑残粉涂金砌，恍若轻霜抹玉栏”，仍紧紧沾滞于月色不放。这样，白粉之涂上台阶，轻霜之飘洒玉栏，虽然在形象上较为清晰，在诗境上也显得空灵而凄迷，但由于作者仍未能在寄情寓兴方面作深一层的拓展，因而诗的内容还不够深沉，意蕴还是不够醇厚。
诗的结联两句，是全诗的意思的总括，可这里只说得个西楼人物、夜色深沉、月轮高挂。显然，由于前面内容不够充实，故诗的结穴仍不免分乏无力。但因作者注意绾合开头所咏之月轮，因而从结构上看，全诗还算是首尾圆整的。

曹雪芹，名霑，字梦阮，号雪芹，又号芹溪、芹圃。清代著名文学家，小说家。先祖为中原汉人，满洲正白旗包衣出身。素性放达，曾身杂优伶而被钥空房。爱好研究广泛：金石、诗书、绘画、园林、中医、织补、工艺、饮食等。他出身于一个“百年望族”的大官僚地主家庭，因家庭的衰败饱尝人世辛酸，后以坚韧不拔之毅力，历经多年艰辛创作出极具思想性、艺术性的伟大作品《红楼梦》。
